Welcome to EUtri!
It was great meeting some of you at the sports fair through the week, and communicating with some of you over email. From the looks of things its promising to be a good year for EUtri!
The club has been running roughly 12 years, and has been developing nicely throughout that time. What started as a few keen individuals has expanded into a substantial club of usually around 80 members, and every year the number increase. Along with members increasing the club equipment and facilities are also increasing so that now we also have equipment such as club bikes, swim paddles/floats; and additional training sessions such as spin, core and circuit sessions to get all triathletes into tip top shape!
As you may have seen, the training timetable as it stands seems fairly demanding. But don’t panic, you do not have to attend all sessions. Additionally, what ever session you come to there will always be someone at your level to train with. With running and cycling we have some speedy Gonzales’ to go out with those who like a fast pace, but also a reliable few who take the run at a more leisurely pace. You will never be left behind at any EUtri training, someone is always to hand to help if you get a puncture/broken chain, or cant quite manage the pace. As for swimming (many peoples least favourit) you need to be able to float to join the club. Last year the coach, Sexy Dec, coached at least 3 members who could hardly swim 25m. They all competed in triathlons by the end of the year. Our swim captian David MadeOfSteel is also to hand to coach, and to lead the fast lane.
We run additional session on an ad hoc basis. Additional morning swims are common, as are core and circuit sets run by Sexy Dec. They are worth coming along to so keep an eye out on our forum for times and places.
Our lovely social secretary Lyndsey has some great events planned for the year. First up is the Welcoming BBQ which is happening on Saturday 16th, meeting at 13:30 in Bristo Square. We hope the smell of burgers and bangers will lure you all in! Secondly, we have sign up night on Tuesday 20th from 19:30 at Malones on Forrest road. Its your chance to sign up and become a fully fledged member of the club. If you are still not sure, come along anyway for a chat and a drink, and we will see if we can persuade you!
The first big social will be Pubgolf, which is happening at the end of September, more on that to come! Also, we have weekly drinks at the Pleasants pub after swimming on a Tuesday. This is the best time to get to know other members when you are not panting or sweaty!
That’s about it for now, look forward to meeting you all. If you have any questions or queries don’t hesitate to email me at triathlon@ed.ac.uk
